1) Why do I need to pay for a profile design, its just a background image right?

Professional MySpace design involves a lot more than just creating a background image. The top MySpace design companies understand and know MySpace as well as the CSS/html that involves the MySpace layouts. Its not just a background image, it’s the entire profile that is created and tailored around your needs.

2) Can’t I just use a template or layout generator?

Sure, those are always available and free. But the generators are limited to what they can offer in terms of design. If you are looking for something that stands above the rest, a free template (which is often overused and on hundreds, if not thousands of more profiles) or generator typically will scream novice. If you want to be taken seriously and make your band, company or profile stand out, a professional myspace design is indeed necessary.

3) There are several companies that design MySpace profiles, which one should I trust?

You are dealing with an online service, most likely with people you will never meet in person, because of this there is always the risk when dealing online, however, you can cover yourself by knowing who you are working with. As a MySpace designer, I recommend my clients that are a hesitant to talk with my previous clients. Talking to past clients is the best way to learn and understand the most important facets of the business deal. Are they professional? Timely? Did they meet expectations? All these questions can be asked by simply contacting a previous client.

On a side note, please be weary of those that refuse to show samples of their previous work. While some may be starting out in their careers, a portfolio and samples are always a great resource to understand that style you expect.

4) What if I don’t like the design I was given?

Unfortunately with some companies you pay and get a design that they find suitable with very little you can do about it. These types of companies are few and far between, but they are out there. Be sure to do your research beforehand. Most companies, however, will continue revising the design until you are 100% satisfied. The key is to communicate. Professional MySpace designers want you to be happy with their work, so letting them know of any changes and revisions you want is essential. Do not be afraid that you will hurt their feelings or insult them. You are paying for a design that suits YOU, not the designer, so speak up and communicate.

5) How much should I pay for a profile design?

This is not an easy question to answer. Just like any other graphic design service, this depends on the artist and company you choose. Pricing varies, just as much as the style and implementation. The average price for design work is around $300 – $600 for a profile design. This all depends on the nature and extent of the design work. The more bells and whistles (so to speak) that you get with your profile, the higher the price will typically be charged for the service.

No matter who you choose to do your custom profile design, always ensure that you are comfortable with the person you do business with.
